 Meaning of Physical Fitness

  Different people have different point of view regarding physical fitness. For a common person to have a good physique is a symbol of physical fitness. For a doctor , the proper functioning of physiological systems is physical fitness. In fact, physical fitness is a simple term with a broad meaning. physical fitness of a common person means the capacity to do the routine work without any fatigue or exertion and after doing his/her work he/she has power to do some more work with quick recovery.

Physical fitness is more than the possession of strength and endurance. It means having the best possible health with the capacity to do ones everyday task, engage in recreational pursuits and meet emergencies, when they arise .As a matter of fact , physical fitness is possessed by that individual who remains enthusiastic, works cheerfully and does the emergency work with vigour. Physical fitness implies a relation between the task to be performed and the individual capability to perform it. In fact , to understand the physical fitness in a better way, it would be more beneficial to go through the following definitions of physical fitness.

here is no universally accepted definition of wellness. The scientific meaning of wellness is the state of being healthy and free of diseases. The following definitions may be helpful to understand the meaning of wellness.
   1. ''Wellness is defined is the optimal functioning of body and creative adapting to environment that involves the whole person.
   2.  ''The fact or condition of being physically and mentally healthy.''
   3.  ''The quality or state of being healthy'' is called wellness.
   4.  ''Wellness is considered the optimal state of health.''
   5.  ''Wellness involves a healthy balance of mind, body and spirit which result in the overall feeling of well being.''
wellness can be defined as, ''the pursuit of a healthy and balanced lifestyle.''
  In fact, wellness is the capability of an individual to lead a well balanced life. Wellness is made up of multiple dimensions such as physical wellness, mental wellness, emotional wellness, spiritual wellness, social wellness, occupational wellness and environmental wellness.
 In the recent years. the concept of the wellness staying healthy and achieving the highest potential for well being has become very popular. In India, some corporation have developed wellness programmes. These corporation are willing to invest in these programmes because they have found that these resulted in increased employee productivity., decreased absenteeism, better employee health and lower insurance costs. Wellness programmes stress on proper nutrition, regularity and appropriate physical activity or exercise, stress management, no to smoking no to school and drugs and weight control.

These programmes can help individual develop abilities to participate in a variety of sports activities that are meaningful and satisfying. Most of us, as parents in our country, want to maintain and improve the health of our children. That why we take them to the best doctor. But unfortunately, we do little in preventing dangerous diseases that may strike them later in their life. So, children should be allowed to take part in games and sports and other physical activities so that they may improve and maintain their wellness throughout their life.

Physically fit individuals tend to have lower resting blood pressure. Everyone wants to maintain one physical fitness to perform the routine work easily. That why it is said that physical fitness adds years to one life. Many people are under the impression that physical fitness is necessary only for sportspersons because they participate in vigorous activities of sports and games. They are not aware of the fact that physical fitness and wellness are necessary , a certain level of physical fitness is necessary for a common man too. Physical fitness is important for daily activities like walking, running, lifting and carrying weight. Physical fitness also improves posture and appearance to be physically fit. Doctors indicate that physical fitness maintains muscular tissues, decreases the risk of injury and reduces lower back pain. They also assert that muscular problems usually arise due to lack of physical fitness indicate that the children, include physical fitness in early life are likely to remain active in future.
 Physical fitness and wellness play a key role in improving the mental ability of an individual. These tend to enhance productivity and quality at work. In fact, the complete efficiency level of an individual is enhanced. A physical fit person can manage stress.
  Swami Vivekananda also said, ''Today we do not need Bhagwat Geeta but football fields.'' In fact laid stress on physical fitness as well as wellness of our citizens so that they could hold up the nation honour and prestige.

     4 ''Lifestyle is a set of attitudes, habits or possessions associated with a particular person or group.''
     5 ''A way of living of individuals, groups and societies , which manifest in coping with their physical, psychological social and economic environments on a day to day basis.''
    6 ''lifestyle is a pattern of behaviour or the way an individual lives.''

   Importance of Healthy/Positive Lifestyle 
 A healthy lifestyle is absolutely vital for reducing the incidence and impact of problems, for recovery, for coping with life stressors and for improving quality of life. There are a number, of research studies which show that lifestyle plays a huge part in how healthy we are. As matter of fact, what we eat and drink, how exercise we do and whether we smoke or take rugs, all these affect our health. It is usually seen that conditions such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, mental illness, etc., are responsible for a vast number of deaths and disabilities. currently, we depend exclusively on the medical treatment which is provided by qualified doctors. As a matter of fact, many health problems can be prevented or at least their occurrence can be postponed by having a healthy lifestyle. A healthy or positive lifestyle is really very important for all us in the following ways.
1. Increases Longevity: A healthy lifestyle increases the longevity. It slows down the aging process and helps the older people to stay strong and healthy. Healthy lifestyle also enhances the immunity system, and contributes to a longer lifespan . A healthy lifestyle reduces the risk of diseases and delays the deterioration of health.

2. Increases Energy Level:  A healthy lifestyle increases energy levels. An individual with a healthy lifestyle feels more energetic which translates into more productivity in day today living. With the increased energy level, we can accomplish more work in our life which in turn provides a greater sense of satisfaction. 

3. Helps in Reducing Depression: A healthy lifestyle helps in reducing depression. In fact, a healthy lifestyle helps in accomplishing a healthy body which in turn elevates hormone levels in the body, which regulate the mood. this hormone helps in reducing depression.
